Well, tonight my wonderful husband helped me clean the house!! We are getting ready for our third open house on Sunday. We are hoping to sell our house and move to AZ. I'm excited about moving to AZ, I'm just very fearful of the unknown. I wanted to do some agility training tonight, but I just ran out of daylight.
This week I started training Winston the weave polls. I'm using the 2X2 method and he seems to picking it up quickly. Over at the training building on Wed.night he preformed a wonderful A-frame with a 4 on the floor. I'm teaching him a stop on the dog walk, but I've decided to teach a 4 on the floor for the A-frame. All of which I need to continue to work on. He starts a new agility class Wed. night and I'm looking forward to it. He's a fun little terrier. I have high hopes for us as a team.
Zedd and I are slowly becoming a team. I've been thinking about his style of jumping and I realized that I may need to handle him differently then other handlers handle small dogs. My goal is to steer from the rear as much as I can. Rear cross on the flat when possible, work distance to get a front cross in when I need to. I'm going to do my best not to race him down a line of jumps.
CONTACT performance is icky in the ring. At training he preforms them well, especially when I reward him with a cheese ball. In the ring, that is a whole nother story. I've become a handler that screams at their dog to hit the contacts. I just wish I would have had more knowledge about training contacts when I started teaching him contacts. My goal at our next show is to run them just like I do in training and make sure I do a little rock back of my body weight. If he gets his contacts, he will get two cheese balls when we leave the ring. If I get gutsy enough, when he performs the contacts correctly I may just leave the ring, have a party the whole way and immediately give him the cheese balls!!! Food for thought!
